SEPTEMBER 23-TUES

FROM FORTUNES TO FARM, a day in LAWRENCE COUNTY..$70.

Many residents of Lawrence County don’t realize how special this place we call home can be.  Breakaway has been hosting groups from out of town to experience all that we have here, so if you are from New Castle, this may be a new look at what you see every day. If not, this is a chance to discover a hidden gem.  We’ll start with a guided tour of the Scottish Rite Cathedral, one of the largest in the country. Susan Linville, author of “Mansions of New Castle” will join us next to share some of the history of the Historic North Hill.  Lunch will be at the Crane Room and we’ll hear some history of this building.  After lunch, we’ll stop at the Apple Castle to speak with the Johnson family and a stop at the Cheese House will be made.   Here our formerly Amish guide will join us to point out Amish farms and talk about what it’s like in “the life”.  Our last stop will include free time to browse in Volant before our return.

SEPTEMBER 26-FRI

CLARION AUTUMN LEAF FESTIVAL/ SAWMILL CENTER..$40.

Our day begins at the well-known craft show at the annual Autumn Leaf Festival in Clarion, PA.  Hundreds of vendors and food booths are set up for your enjoyment and shopping.  This afternoon we will drive through Cook’s Forest to the Sawmill Center of the Arts.  Browse through one of a kind items at this juried shop of handcrafted treasures.  We will end the day by visiting a local winery.

SEPTEMBER 27 – SAT

MT. PLEASANT GLASS / ETHNIC FESTIVAL/FALLINGWATER..65.

Come to the scenic Laurel Highlands to see the Frank Lloyd Wright house built for the Kaufman family over a waterfall.  Our afternoon will be spent at THE 26th annual Glass and Ethnic Festival in downtown Mt. Pleasant.  We’ll park at the nearby Lennox Outlet and be shuttled back and forth, so you’ll have a chance to do some outlet shopping as well as enjoy the many vendors, the glass demonstrations, entertainment and the ethnic food.

OCTOBER 4—SAT    

FRANKLIN APPLEFEST/ OC & T RAILROAD..$52.

Spend the day at one of Western Pennsylvania’s favorite and fastest growing festivals.  We spend the day at Franklin’s Applefest.   This festival has been growing yearly and boasts over 300 vendors, food booths and farmer’s market.  We complete the day with a scenic one hour train ride aboard the Oil Creek and Titusville RR Through the “valley that changed the world”.

“HALF-STITCHED” IN SUGARCREEK, OH..$91.

Amish widow Emma Yoder's first quilt class brings the most unlikely people together. As these beginning quilters learn to transform scraps of material into beauty; their fragmented lives begin to take new shape with the helping hands of each other and the healing hand of God. Join the club of unlikely quilters who show up for Amish widow Emma Yoder's quilting classes.  Like the scraps of fabric stitched together in a quilt, they learn to open up and lend a helping hand. Is this what God had in mind to heal hurting hearts and create beauty from fragments?  Time for shopping in Sugarcreek and a delicious family style lunch are included before the afternoon show.

MOUNTAIN PLAYHOUSE presents “Mid Life! The Crisis Musical”..$95.

Enjoy a delicious luncheon at picturesque Green Gables Restaurant (give us your choice of chicken cordon bleu or pot roast) followed by a production at the renowned Mountain Playhouse in Jennerstown, PA.  This hilarious musical comedy is for both men and women as such topics as love handles, forgetfulness, reading glasses menopause and proctology exams and their frustrations are spoofed.  Lunch will pre-cede the 3:00 P.M. show.

OCTOBER 11—SAT       

PEEK N PEAK FALL FESTIVAL, WINE & MUMS..$37.

Spend a glorious autumn day at Peek n Peak’s annual Fall Festival Arts and Crafts Celebration.    Bring home some of that glorious color in the form of beautiful mums from Paschke Mum Farm.  Wine tasting at a local winery is included before returning home.

OCTOBER 11 – SATURDAY

“DIXIE’S TUPPERWARE PARTY” at THE CABARET..$75

It’s not your Mother’s Tupperware Party as we join Dixie, who left her kids in the trailer in Alabama to go on the road with her Parties. With comedy, audience participation and even actual Tupperware products for sale, you will laugh the afternoon away. A dinner stop at Station Square in Pittsburgh will follow the matinee production.

OCTOBER 14—TUES   

KINZUA SKYWALK/ZIPPO MUSEUM/WINERY..$71.

Travel into the Allegheny National Forest Region to view spectacular fall foliage in Pennsylvania’s ONLY National Forest.  “Walk the Tracks Across the Sky” on the new Kinzua SkyWalk which was built on the renovated towers of the historic Kinzua Viaduct.   Tour the Zippo/Case Museum filled with innovative designs and artwork that made the Zippo name world famous.  Drive along the Longhouse Scenic Drive, named one of the top 50 scenic drives in the US and stop at the Kinzua Dam for breathtaking views. Lunch and a stop at Flickerwood Wine Cellars are included.

OCTOBER 15 – WED

“A SALUTE TO AMERICA”..$89.

Travel with us through the brilliant fall foliage in the Laurel Highlands as we enjoy lunch at the Ramada Ligonier followed by “American Heroes”, a show presented to honor our country’s most memorable pioneers, explorers, presidents and more.  After lunch we will have an opportunity to pay homage to our real live heroes at the new Flight 93 Memorial and the Quecreek Mine Rescue Site.  Last year’s group loved this tour!

OCTOBER 16—THURS

CUYAHOGA RR/ HARTVILLE KITCHEN LUNCH..$72.

All aboard the Cuyahoga Railroad as it makes its way through the beautiful Cuyahoga National Park.  Explore the beautiful scenery from a vintage train car.  The afternoon will include lunch at Hartville Kitchen and time at Hartville Market Place.

OCTOBER 17– FRI

WESTERN MARYLAND SCENIC RAIL ROAD..$90.

Our coach will deliver us to Cumberland, Maryland, for a round trip ride on Western Maryland Scenic Railroad’s “Mountain Thunder” steam train.  The Helmstetter’s Horseshoe Curve, Brush Tunnel, a mile long gorge and much more, will highlight your route through the gorgeous autumn foliage.  Upon arrival in Frostburg, 1,300 feet up, you will enjoy a box lunch, see the train engine turned on the turntable and browse the gift shops before it’s “all aboard” for the return trip.  Time will be allowed in Cumberland to visit the blanket outlet before stopping at Slick’s Ivy Stone in Osterburg, PA for dinner.

“MOTOWN” at CLEVELAND PLAYHOUSE SQUARE..$105

NIAGARA ON THE LAKE/ WINERY TOUR..$70.

Join us as we travel north through the peak autumn foliage.  Our destination is the charming town of Niagara on the Lake wearing it’s autumn finery.  This beautiful little town is ripe for the picking with shopping and dining to satisfy the most discerning.  Before departing we’ll tour one of the fabulous wineries complete with a tasting.  We’ll have time to see glorious Niagara Falls before departing for our return.  Come see the best autumn has to offer!

ANNIE at the BENEDUM..$99.

Start your holiday season early with a drive through the Winter Festival of Lights in Oglebay Park.  By popular request we have added the sumptuous buffet dinner at Wilson Lodge.   Visit the exciting show at the Good Zoo with over 35,000 lights choreographed to music by the Trans Siberian Orchestra.

FABULOUS FOOD SHOW..$67.

The I-X Center in Cleveland will once again host the Fabulous Food Show.  The event features appearances by celebrity chefs, cooking demonstrations by local chefs, wine and food tastings, and lots more to interest food lovers everywhere.   The juried craft and artisans show is a perfect place to pick up unusual Christmas gifts.    Celebrity Chefs are TBA.  FABULOUS AND FUN DAY!!

NOVEMBER 16 – SUN

“NEWSIES” at CLEVELAND PLAYHOUSE SQUARE..$105

What doesn’t Disney do right? This original Disney Broadway production, based on the movie, tells the story of the striking newsboys in the 1920’s. Winner of Tony awards for best score and best choreography, critics are calling is “a musical worth singing about!”. A dinner stop will be made before the 6:30 P.M. production

Irving Berlin’s White Christmas tells the story of two buddies putting on a show in a magical Vermont inn and finding their perfect mates in the process. Full of dancing, laughter and some of the greatest songs ever written. Appropriate meal stops will be made.

We have seats in Brown’s Stadium for this match-up.  If tickets at Heinz Field are too expensive or too hard to get, this is your chance to see the Steelers up close and personal.  Orrrr, if you’re a Brown’s Fan, you are welcome as well!  The game is usually scheduled for 1:05 P.M. but the time is subject to the whims of the NFL

This magical, Christmassy day begins with a visit to the beautifully decorated Nationality Rooms at Pitt University, followed by a visit to the ever popular Phipps Conservatory to see the Christmas Flower Show.  Lunch will be special indeed as we partake of a holiday buffet in Pittsburgh’s oldest German club, The Teutonia Mannerchor where we will enjoy a caroling sing along with their German Ladies Choir!  After lunch we’ll stop by PPG Place to see the international Santa’s as well as Pittsburgh’s newest Christmas attraction, The European Holiday Market, set up in chalets built around the Christmas Tree.  A stop to see the life sized Nativity at the USX building will round out our day!

HARTVILLE AND “DECK THE HALLS” AT STAN HYWET..$77.

Travel with us to Ohio’s capitol for a day of Christmas shopping.  Our first stop is the North Market for lunch and a chance to browse through their Christmas crafts.  The remainder of our day will be at Easton Town Center, one of the premier shopping centers in the nation.  Since Columbus in known as “test market USA” you will find prototypes of styles and accessories available nowhere else in the nation.  With such stores as American Girl, Nordstroms, Sur Le Table, Brighton, Michael Kors and more, this is a day to remember.  They even offer carriage rides to see their beautiful lights.  www.EastonTownCenter.com
