We depart this morning and head south; our first overnight is in Fort Mill, SC. Travel this morning to Beaufort, SC where we will tour this unique small southern town including the Marine Corps base, Parris Island. Traveling onto Savannah, GA, home to the largest restored National Historic Landmark District in the nation, where we will have time to experience the famous cobblestone River Street, relive history on a guided city tour, “do lunch” at Lady and Sons Restaurant and spend an evening at the historic Savannah Theater enjoying their presentation of “Hooray For Hollywood”. We are not done yet!! Our next stop is Charleston, SC for a tour of Ft. Sumter, the island Fort where the Civil War began, a guided tour of the city. This is a truly elegant tour of some of the South’s most charming towns.

SOUTHWESTERN UNITED STATES
APRIL 19 – MAY 3 15 DAYS/ 14 NIGHTS

If you truly wish to experience a slice of life in this great country of ours, this is the tour for you. We will begin the journey heading west to St. Louis to stay in the shadow of the Gateway Arch, symbol of Western expansion. As we travel through the Ozark Mountains, we will stop at Missouri’s #1 tourist attraction, Bass Pro Outdoor World for shopping and a buffet lunch. Continuing into Claremore, OK we will stop for a visit at the Will Rogers Memorial and Museum before overnighting in Tulsa, OK. You can’t visit Oklahoma without seeing the Cowboy Hall of Fame and we will do just that before making a quick stop to see the Oklahoma City Memorial at the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. We head into the lone star state this evening to overnight in Amarillo, TX. Passing through Texas into New Mexico, the Land of Enchantment, we set our sights on Old Town Albuquerque for lunch and shopping before visiting ACOMA, the oldest continuously inhabited site in the country. Our overnight tonight is in Gallup, NM. One of the tour highlights unfolds today as we travel into Oak Creek Canyon and see the red rock in Sedona, AZ, an oasis in the desert. We’ll sleep in Scottsdale, AZ, near Phoenix for the next two nights. A stop at the Botanical Gardens will be made as well as the Sonora Desert Museum, a unique zoo, and our tour of the area will conclude with a stop in old Tucson, set of many western movies. Tombstone is next up as we visit “the town too tough to die” to see the famed OK Corral and Boot Hill Cemetery. Later this afternoon we’ll arrive at White Sands National Monument to see the white sand dunes before checking in to our hotel in Alamogordo, NM. The Sacramento Mountains are the gateway to our next attraction, world-renowned Carlsbad Caverns, home to an unbelievable netherworld of stalactites and stalagmites. Our overnight will be back in Texas at Fort Stockton. San Antonio will be our home for the next two nights as we tour the Alamo, the San Jose Mission, enjoy the river walk and even dine on a barge on the river! Heading from here to Dallas, you can’t pass the LBJ Ranch without stopping for some grub, and that’s what we’ll do, before traveling in town to see the site of JFK Jr’s assassination. Our overnight will be in Texarcana, TX. Departing Texas, Tennessee will be our host for a tour of Elvis’ Graceland mansion before stopping at Casey Jone’s Village for dinner. This village is one of Tennessee’s hidden treasures with shopping, museums and more! After overnighting in Memphis, we’ll continue on to Nashville for a stop at the Country Music Hall of Fame and a show at the Grand Ole Opry. Our accommodations will be just across from famed Opryland hotel. Our last day’s travels will take us through the beauty of springtime in West Virginia and on to our own home with memories of the many sights we have seen!

PADUCAH, KENTUCKY AQS QUILT SHOW
APRIL 21-24, 2009 4 DAYS/3 NIGHTS

Don’t miss the 2009 American Quilter’s Society Quilt Show & Contest in Paducah, KY. We will stay in nearby Metropolis, IL. Who knows, you may catch a glimpse of Superman!! Some of the activities we will enjoy include admission to the National Quilt Museum, the famous Hancock Fabric Store, time at the American Quilter’s Society’s annual Quilt Show and Sale, where hundreds of quilts are on display along with the offerings of a myriad of merchant booths. You’ll shop for everything from antique quilts to wearables, to books, to crafting and sewing supplies, sewing machines, yard goods, lines, buttons, trim, patterns, food concessions and more!!! Take advantage of the free shuttle service into the town or to the Fairgrounds, where there will be more shopping and restaurants. Eleanor Burns has a permanent store in downtown Paducah and a huge offering in the floral barn at the Fairgrounds.
