HARPER’S FERRY&POTOMAC EAGLE TRAIN RIDE: The Path of The Eagle
OCTOBER 23 – 24 2 DAY/1 NIGHT
Last year’s group really enjoyed this new tour but suggested we move it into Autumn to avoid the summer heat and take advantage of the gorgeous Fall Foliage. We agreed and here it is on new dates. Our first morning travel will take us into scenic West Virginia to Romney where we will enjoy a box lunch aboard the Potomac Eagle Train Ride. This journey into the Trough Canyon is known as “the path of the eagle” due to the number of bald eagles who call this canyon their home. You may also spot a black bear, a great blue heron or white-tailed deer in this beautiful remote spot. The ride is 3 hours long, and we spotted several eagles last year. Our next stop is downtown in historic Winchester, VA where we will have time to explore the Old Town Walking Mall to have dinner at a place of your choice, before checking into our nearby hotel. The town of Winchester changed hands 19 times in one day during the Civil War! After breakfast next morning, we’ll make the short journey to Harper’s Ferry, WV for time in Harper’s Ferry National Park to learn about the early American and Civil War History of this beautiful spot overlooking the Shenandoah River. The tour will conclude with plenty of time to explore the shops in the lower town and grab a bit of lunch. From here we will head north to Somerset, PA for a tour of Brantview Maple Farms to see how they turn sap to syrup and for a chance to shop their wares. Our dinner will be included at Oakhurst Grill. Mid evening return. What a lot to see on a short trip!
