SAVANNAH/BEAUFORT/CHARLESTON
  AMTRAK’s “PALMETTO EXPRESS”

We depart this morning and head south; our first overnight is in Blythewood, SC.     Beaufort, SC is our next destination, where we will visit this unique small southern town including the Marine Corps base, Parris Island.   Traveling on for an afternoon check in to our hotel which is right in the historic district of Savannah.  Our hotel boasts one of the best locations-only one block away from River Street and 4 blocks from City Market.  Tonight, a dinner cruise is included aboard the Savannah River Queen.  We begin day 3 on picturesque Tybee Island, we will have plenty of time to tour one of the nation’s last Light House Stations with time to see the Tybee Island beach and museum.  We return to Savannah   for lunch at a place of your choice on the historic, cobblestoned River Street with shopping time included.  Next is a guided city tour, with a walk through the beautiful St. John the Baptist Cathedral.   A guided tour through the Prohibition Museum is included before an included dinner at a local restaurant.  Day 4 we will board Amtrak’s Palmetto Express for a two-hour train ride to Charleston, SC where our motor coach will be waiting to take us to awaiting horse-drawn carriages, for a tour through the lovely town of Charleston.  Lunch and some shopping are on your own at the City Market in historic downtown Charleston.  Before leaving the area, we will visit Magnolia Plantation with a house tour and tram tour of the gardens.   We begin our travels home with an overnight in Blythewood, SC. This is a truly elegant tour of some of the South’s most charming towns.
